| Welcome to 3rd Grade! | | Hello Families! August 11, 2008
Welcome to Highland Park Elementary and 3rd grade! Our names are Mrs. Teresa Vogelgesang and Ms. Diane Zanter. We are extremely excited about the upcoming year.
Newsletters Throughout the year we will communicate with you through newsletters sent home bi-weekly. The newsletters are filled with important information such as special events, fieldtrips, current units of inquiry, and dates we do not have school. We would like to send out our newsletters electronically to save paper and the schools copier. If you would like to receive these via email, please send your email address to school with your child or email it to your teacher.
Useful Information * Our classroom is a positive place where students are encouraged to ask questions (inquire). We expect everyone in the room to cooperate with one another and respect all of the people in the school and the school itself.
* Every student in kindergarten through 6th grade must Read Volumes by the end of the year. We expect the students read for at least 15 minutes every night and encourage them to visit the library when they need a book.
* School Planners will be sent home with all school information and homework they may have.
* All students need to have gym shoes for Phy. Ed or they will not be able to participate. It might be good idea to send your child with gym shoes every day, just to be safe as we are on a confusing 2-day rotation with 3 specialists!
* If you would like to volunteer it would be greatly appreciated. Students would benefit most to have volunteers during our Reading and Math times. If you can’t volunteer during that time but would like to volunteer another time, we will have field trips and other activities throughout the year. We will send that information home in future newsletters.
Unit of Inquiry Our first unit of inquiry is called Rock On. As you might have guessed, we will be studying rocks, their formation, and their cycle. If you have any information on rocks or minerals, please feel free to send it to school with your child.
If you have any questions or comments, please call us before school or leave a message during school at (651) 293-8770. You can also email us, we check our email regularly. Another wonderful place for information is our school website and our class pages. The web address is: http://highlandel.spps.org. For our class page click on classrooms, then Third Grade, then the appropriate teacher. Thank you for your time and again, we look forward to meeting you and getting to know you throughout the year.
Sincerely, Mrs. Teresa Vogelgesang and Ms. Diane Zanter 3rd Grade Teachers
