| DISCOVERY CLUB |  | Discovery Club's mission is to provide high quality before and after
school programming in a safe, fun, caring environment where children
can pursue a variety of interests, learn lifelong skills, develop
friendships, and grow in confidence and respect for themselves and
others.
Hi! My name is Justine Osum, this will be my 6th year at
Highland Park Elementary Discovery Club as site manager. I have
worked for the St. Paul Public Schools for 11 years, 7 of them with the
Discovery Club program. This year our program has 3 groups! Our group leaders are, Judith (kindergarten & 1st), Ellen (1st & 2nd), and myself (2nd-5th) I look forward to a great year with you all!
Our Daily Schedule:
A.M.
- We start out in the base room (next to main office), where each child can participate in a variety of activities, small art projects, games, blocks, books on tape to name a few. After about an hour we usually go outside or into the gym for large muscle activities. At 8:40 we are off to breakfast with one of the group leaders sitting with us until school starts.
P.M. - After school the children join us in the cafeteria and we have snack and talk about our day. We then go outside or to the gym to run and play. When we do come back inside we split into our groups and have a rotating schedule. We rotate between our base room, room 102, computer lab, library and gym. During these group times we will participate in group discussions, large and small muscle activities, planned art projects, and programs such as Second Step. Second Step teaches empathy and respect through discussions, acting out situations, and pictures. We also will be focusing more on reading, both individually and with our leaders, this year.
