Welcome to kindergarten - a kind and caring place to learn!
Welcome to Highland Park Elementary!
Kindergarten is the most exciting year in school.  I am looking forward to working with you to make it a very happy, successful, and safe year for your child.
Since your child will be spending a little over 6 hours a day with me, I figure you would like to know a little bit about me.
My family is very important to me.  My husband Pete and I just celebrated our 11th anniversary this winter.   I have 3 little ones who keep me on my toes:  Christopher (8), Joshua (5), and Elizabeth (4). I have 2 awesome

stepsons named Tyler (17) and Justin (16).
When I am not teaching and the weather permits, you can find me out boating.  Whether it is up north at friends' cabins or on metro-area lakes, water skiing is a favorite activity. Other favorite activities:  jogging, biking, going to the beach with my kids, reading, and camping.
So, what qualifies me to teach kindergarten to your child (besides the fact that I love it)?  I received my bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Catherine, where I majored in Elementary Education and Spanish.

I completed my graduate work through St. Mary’s University, where I focused my research and studies on early literacy.  This will be my 14th year teaching in St., Paul, with most of those years spent teaching kindergarten.  This is my third year teaching at HPE.
My summer was filled with many professional development activities and school-related projects.  One of the highlights was attending a 7 day Educational Research & Dissemination seminar sponsored by the American Federation of Teachers in Providence, RI, where I began the process of becoming a facilitator

for the local ER&D Foundations class.   Not only did I have a chance to participate in a great professional development opportunity , I was able to enjoy the Providence & Boston area.
We will have a wonderful year.  Please remember that I encourage communication between home and school.  Your questions, concerns, and ideas are always welcome.  The easiest way is to get a hold of me is to send an email to sarah.woxland@spps.org.  If a phone call is preferred, call the HPE office 293-8775 x211.
