Site Council Elections Are Coming!

The Site Council is an active commitment by elected parents to help Highland Park Elementary work proactively with the staff to achieve predetermined long-range goals. All Site Council members play a role and the roles include but are not limited to:
  • Demonstrate a desire to help our school succeed and make a difference in the education of all children - you need to be committed to serving the school and supporting student achievement.
  • Prepare for and attend monthly meetings. These meetings can be both inside and outside of the school such as attending meetings at the District office.
  • Work to increase family and community involvement.
  • Learn about your school/site.
  • Share responsibility for creating a collaborative working model and a welcoming environment.
  • Actively participate in meetings and be willing to do any follow up as needed.
  • Help support the school's SCIP (School-wide Continuous Improvement Plan) plan and monitor the improvement plan.
  • Help plan and prioritize the school's budget
Site Council's work is not limited to 11 meeting per year; the commitment runs about 5-15 hours per month depending on what is happening in the school and the District. Some of the duties include calling elected officials, meeting with personnel from the school district and building relationships with other Site Councils, attending parent fairs, listening to parent's concerns, coming up with great ideas to help promote our school and follow through on the great ideas. We need people who are willing to be held accountable for results.

Skills needed: A desire to help the school and make a difference in the education of all children, strong organizational and communication skills and follow through abilities.

UPDATE: There are four self-nominations for three positions. Ballots must be turned in to the office, or emailed to Tani.Winther@spps.org by May 22, 2006.
