CURRENT UNIT OF INQUIRY: IT’S A SMALL WORLD - MICROBES

Our current Unit of Inquiry is called It’s a Small World – Microbes.  The central idea is that Human survival depends on co-existence with microbes under the theme How the World Works.  The lines of inquiry include:  Microbe characteristics, Harmful and helpful effects of microbes and Staying healthy.  We have read books and articles, watched movies and videos, conducted our own research by growing microbes in petri dishes, observed and recorded in our Science Notebooks, done the "Glitter" experiment and Ball-passing activity, and asked many questions.  Our classroom inquiry will answer the question "How does bacteria survive?"  Watch for the publication of our non-fiction Question/Answer books from Writers Workshop.  This has been a very engaging unit of inquiry!
