Welcome to Mrs. Moersch's First Grade!
Meet me . . .

I celebrate my return to Highland Park Elementary School (HPE) with great enthusiasm.   HPE is a fabulous school!  I was a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) as a Gifted Services Coach and Literacy Coach at the Saint Paul Public Schools Professional Development Center.  I was the Schoolwide Enrichment Specialist at Sheridan School after a long and successful teaching career with the Northfield Public Schools.

My birthplace is Chicago, Illinois, and my heart has always been in the Midwest. My family moved to Southern California when I was in eighth grade. I graduated with a major in Psychology from Pitzer College in Claremont, California and began my public school teaching career in Etiwanda, California. After moving to Minnesota with my husband and sons in 1980, I earned a Master's Degree in Gifted Education from the University of Connecticut, studying under Dr. Joseph Renzulli, the creator of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model. My wider involvement in the gifted education community includes chairing the annual conference of the Minnesota Educators of the Gifted and Talented as well as serving as its President, and presenting at national, regional, state and local conferences on topics such as Differentiation and Cluster Classrooms.

My husband, Ron, is the managing partner in a six-lawyer law firm in Northfield, Minnesota. My older son, Tyler, has completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Minnesota and is currently a Chemistry Professor at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont CA. My younger son, Brandon, completed law school at the Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He works with a law firm in Minneapolis where he lives with his wife. I am very proud of the men in my life!

When I became acquainted with Highland Park Elementary and the Primary Years Program, I knew it was the place for me. My earlier exposure to the Schoolwide Enrichment Model instilled an awareness of talent development in all children. The concept that all children have great potential is at the core of my philosophy of teaching and learning. The Primary Years Program is that philosophy in action. I am thrilled to be a member of the Highland Park Elementary School community!
