Students feel special and learn how important education is to you when they see you volunteering at school. There are many opportunities and many diffrent ways to volunteer, such as assisting in a classroom, working in the library, chaperoning field trips, assisting during art activities, working at after-school events, and helping out with fundraising efforts -- just to name a few. Parents may also volunteer at home by assisting teachers with special projects. There are several ways to learn more about volunteer opportunities at HPE.
- Complete the volunteer sign-up sheet (attached as PDF to download), which lists the major volunteer opportunities. If you would like to be notified by e-mail when there is a volunteer opportunity that needs more people, please check the "On Call" volunteer box on the sign-up sheet. These sheets will also be available throughout the year on the PTA bulletin board near the office, and can be turned in any time. Keep in mind that signing up on this sheet does not obligate you to work on an event, but it does ensure that you will be contacted about it.
- You can explore and sign up for volunteer opportunities at any time by looking through this volunteering section of the website.
- Contact a PTA volunteer coordinator directly if you would like to learn more about specifici volunteer opportunities or would like to sign up over the phone.
- Each teacher generally has a list of volunteer opportunities specific to their classroom. These should be available from the teacher directly or by visiting the teacher's home page.
- If you are willing to give of your time in a classroom OTHER than your own child's, please contact the classroom volunteer coordinator or feel free to speak to any teacher directly to see if they could use your help. Volunteers are especially helpful during Reading, Writing and Math in all of the upper grades. Teachers are also encouraged to post classroom volunteer opportunities outside of their rooms. Those sign-up sheets are for ALL potential volunteers, not just parents of their current students.
When you come to school to volunteer during the school day, please remember to check in at the office and get a VISITOR badge.
We will make sure that each person is contacted about the opportunities for which they have signed up, but if you are interested in volunteering and have not been called, PLEASE contact one of the following individuals:
PTA Volunteer Coordinators: Susan Wright 651-690-0986 sbwright1@comcast.net
Classroom Volunteer Coordinator: Pam Brown 651-699-3026 pshepper@yahoo.com
PTA currently has a number of special events and fund raisers, as well as several year-long committees that need volunteer support. By clicking on the links below you will find the volunteer responsibilities for each activity and the time it takes, on average, to participate in or lead the initiative. Usually it's not as much work as you might think -- and it's truly fun to get involved.
